1. Do you offer extended care / times?
This year there will be drop off and pick up windows. Drop off for all camps is 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Pick up times are based on your camp times. Half day pick up is 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. and full day pick up is 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Evening/Extended care is not available at this time.
2. Do you offer single day options during the Spring or Summer?
Because of the school break system, we only offer week long options during Spring or Summer. You are more than welcome to have your child attend any number of days M-F during these sessions, but you will need to reserve a full week session to reserve your child’s spot.
3. What safety measures do you have in place to protect against the spread of COVID?
Our camps are following all the CDC, County, and State Health official guidelines. The following protocols will be in place:
- All campers, staff, and on-site personnel are required to wear masks at all times while on the premises.
- A health screening process will be in place at check-in every single day. This will include both health screening questions and a temperature check.
- Frequent hand washing will be encouraged to both campers and staff.
- Our Facilities Team follows all guidelines in frequent sanitizing, cleaning, and disinfecting of commonly touched spaces.
- This year we will not be utilizing the shuttle. Instead we will be offering a curbside drop-off and pick-up service. (Parents are asked to remain in their car)
Full safety protocols and details can be found here: Camp Info
4. What will my child get to see and do at your camp?
The Living Coast Discovery Center strives to bring the excitement of nature exploration, scientific inquiry, and wildlife connection to your students. Campers will get to meet at least one animal up-close, explore the trails, visit various exhibits, feed some of our ambassadors, practice hands-on science, create recycled arts and crafts, and more.
If your camper is staying all day, please make sure to pack plenty of water, a lunch, and two extra snacks. Sunscreen, appropriate shoes, and a hat are all important too!
5. What about the shuttle? How do I get in past the gate?
Due to our sensitive wildlife on the Refuge, we typically do not allow parents to drive directly to the Living Coast. However, this year we will be arranging for parents to drive on to the Refuge during the designated drop-off and pick-up window times. Please make sure to arrive during these windows. If you are going to be late/early, make sure to call our Education Team (619-409-5908) immediately so we can inform you of the procedure for accessing the site.
Strict Speed Limit & Rules on the Refuge: There is a strict 15 mph restriction while on the Refuge. Failure to heed this speed limit could result in a ticket being issued by the federal officers that manage the Refuge. In addition, parts of the road are single-lane only and require on-coming traffic to yield to other cars.
Sun Outdoors RV Resort Guests: We understand some guests of the Sun Outdoors RV Resort may not have access to a vehicle during their stay. A shuttle service will be arranged to pick-up and drop-off your campers. Make sure to reserve your spot on the shuttle during registration. Fee: $15 / child per camp week.
6. My registration isn’t adding to the cart / It’s only charging my shirt and gift shop fees, help!
When a particular week fills up, a waitlist is started. Our system automatically does not charge you when you are being put on the waitlist. It is recommended you do not add a t-shirt or gift shop to your cart, as you will still be charged for these even though there is no guarantee a spot will open for your camper. If spots become available, we will begin calling the waitlist in order of registration.
Stuck at the gate? Call our Mainline 619-409-5900
Camp T-Shirts are only $12
Don’t forget to add your camp t-shirt for only $12 so your camper can have something to remember his or her camp experience by! Note: It is best to select the t-shirt during the first camp of the season. We will also sell these at check-in for cash if you want to decide later.
Gift Shop Credit
Want your camper to have an extra momento from the Living Coast gift shop? Add gift shop credit to your registration so your little camper can get his or her souvenir on the last day of camp. We suggest reserving this for the last camp of the season. You can always send cash for gift shop day too! Note: We do not allow your camper to purchase snacks or drinks during our trip to the gift shop.
Military Discounts Available
Please call 619-409-5908 for the discount code. Military discount is 10% off camp prices and families may be subject to verification at check-in. Discounts cannot be combined. Discounts do not apply towards t-shirt or gift shop credit sales.
