California Wild!

Week 1 (June 8-12), Week 4 (June 29-July 3), Week 7 (July 20-24)

Step into the world of animals and discover the fantastic ways they communicate! Campers will embark on a fun-filled adventure to explore how animals communicate, from chirps and calls to signals and scents. Through immersive activities like trail walks, hands-on crafts, and engaging science experiments, campers connect with nature and let their curiosity run wild!

During camp, we will:

Day 1: 

  • Learn about San Diego habitats
  • Go on a trail walk
  • Make a fun craft

Day 2: 

  • Learn about native plants
  • Meet an animal ambassador
  • Play a game

Day 3: 

  • Learn about invertebrates
  • Work on a craft
  • Search for invertebrates on the refuge

Day 4: 

  • Learn about endangered bird species
  • Explore Raptor Row and Eagle Mesa
  • Meet an animal. 

Day 5: 

  • Participate in an animal feeding
  • Play a fun game
  • Make a craft

Week 2 (June 15-19), Week 5 (July 6-10), Week 8 (July 27-31)

Splash into science with the Living Coast! Through animal encounters and hands-on activities, campers will learn about sea turtles, their life cycle, and the species that call San Diego home.   

During camp, we will…

Day 1: 

  • Play an icebreaker game
  • Make a colorful craft
  • Meet an animal ambassador

Day 2: 

  • Meet an animal
  • Talk about the sea turtle life cycle
  • Conduct an experiment

Day 3: 

  • Learn about what makes sea turtle species unique
  • Go on a trail walk
  • Participate in an animal feeding

Day 4: 

  • Meet an animal
  • Learn about sea turtle conservation
  • Play a game

Day 5: 

  • Participate in a beach cleanup
  • Work on a sea turtle craft
  • Get up close with an animal ambassador

Week 3 (June 22-26), Week 6 (July 13-17), Week 9 (August 3-7)

Have you ever wondered how animals live in their habitats? At the Living Coast, campers will learn about how to preserve different habitats, what it takes for native species to survive, and get a chance to get up close with our animal ambassadors.

Day 2: 

  • Talk about pollinators
  • Get up close with an animal ambassador
  • Explore our Pollinator Garden

Day 3: 

  • Learn about quadrat squares
  • Play a camp game
  • Participate in an animal feeding

Day 4: 

  • Talk about plants in San Diego
  • Meet an animal ambassador
  • Work on a craft

Day 5: 

  • Meet an animal
  • Go on a hike on the refuge
  • Talk about endangered species
