Urban Oasis Member-Only Preview: June 5 from 9:00 -10:00 AM

Members Get Exclusive Access

As one of our most committed supporters, we are thrilled to invite you to our member-only exhibit preview of Urban Oasis!

Urban Oasis will allow students and visitors of all ages to learn about mammals like raccoons, their role and importance in our coastal ecosystem, and increase awareness and appreciation for wildlife that live alongside humans in urban environments.

This is the first time that the Living Coast Discovery Center has featured a mammal in a public exhibit! This is truly a momentous occasion that we hope to celebrate together.

World Sea Turtle Day: June 13-14

Members Get Free Admission

Join us this World Sea Turtle Day and say ‘hi’ to our unofficial greeter, Emerald, the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle.

Sea turtles are often referred to as ancient ocean dwellers or living dinosaurs since it is believed that they have remained virtually unchanged for millions of years.  We even have approximately 60 turtles living in San Diego Bay, although the number fluctuates from year to year.

Did you know that sea turtles lay eggs in the sand?  The gender of the hatchlings is determined by the temperature: cool results in males, warm in females, and a fluctuating temperature produces a mix of both.

Eagle Presentation: 10:30 AM
Arts & Crafts: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Reptile Species Spotlight: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Shark & Ray Presentation: 1:30 PM
Sea Turtle Presentation: 2:30 PM
Saturday Sweetwater Safari Hike: 11:30 AM
Sunday Compost Workshop: 11:30 AM

Member-Only Behind-the-Scenes: June 14 at 3:00 PM

Emerald, the green sea turtle, may be our most well-known animal ambassador. But what is less known is how we care for her and her aquatic neighbors. Join us on Sunday, June 14, for a behind-the-scenes look at where her food is carefully prepared, weighed, and charted. You may even get a chance to build an enrichment item for her to enjoy.

Sure, a shark fin slicing through the waves might send some scrambling out of the water — but there’s so much more to these fascinating creatures than fear and frenzy! Sharks are vital to the health of our oceans, helping to keep marine ecosystems in balance.

Dive into the truth and bust some common shark myths with us! Come face-to-fin with leopard sharks, guitarfish, bat rays, and more in our incredible 21,000-gallon Shark & Ray Experience. It’s jaw-some fun for all ages!

Member-Only Shark Feed: Sunday, July 12 at 2:00 PM

Members Get Exclusive Access

Ever wondered what’s on the menu for a shark? Join us for an exclusive members-only Shark Feed and get an up-close look at how our incredible Animal Care team keeps our aquatic species well-fed and thriving in their shared habitat. Learn fun facts about our fascinating sharks and the importance of tracking animal vitals every single day. It’s the perfect event for curious kids and ocean-loving adults alike—come explore the world of sharks like never before!

RSVP’s will be open 2 weeks before the member-only event. Limited space is available; all in attendance must be named on an active Living Coast membership. We will make every effort to allow as many members as possible to participate in the feeding. However, due to the nature of working with live animals, this may not be guaranteed.
