Coronavirus Update

(Updated March 31, 2020)

Living Coast Closure Extended

The Living Coast has extended its closure to May 2, with a tentative opening date of Sunday, May 3rd. We are continuing to monitor the situation through local health officials and will be posting updates as we have them.

We will continue to have a limited number of essential staff, including our animal care team, working to ensure the health of our animals. Staff remaining on site have been advised of appropriate social distancing methods and have access to personal protective gear, if needed.

Until we are able to welcome you back to the Living Coast, we invite you to stay connected with us via our FacebookInstagram, and Twitter accounts. Updates to operations will also be shared on our social media channels and website as they become available.

If you have questions about refunds and/or rescheduling programs, groups or guest experiences, please email Info@thelivingcoast.org or call (619) 409-5900. Educators can reach our education department directly at Education@thelivingcoast.org or (619) 409-5908.

The value of your pre-purchased tickets and/or reservations may be applied toward a future date (as available) or you may request a refund. (Alternatively, these funds may be donated to the Living Coast to help mitigate the inevitable financial impact of COVID-19 on us during this closure.) Living Coast memberships and guest pass expirations will be extended to accommodate for these closure dates.

We would like to thank the community for their support during this unprecedented time. If you have the ability, we are accepting donations to support our animal care needs during the closure. Alternatively, you can purchase a membership which will support our current operating costs while providing you unlimited admission and member benefits for an entire year, starting from the day we re-open. Please click here for membership information.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission to inspire the community to connect with and care for our coastal environment. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Living Coast soon!

Schools, Educators, & Community Programs

We understand that school districts and schools are taking precautions in response to COVID-19. To help streamline the process of rescheduling or cancelling, we have set up a system for you to respond to how you would like to proceed with your currently scheduled program.

Option 1: Keep
For those that are scheduled after April 5 and anticipate their schools being back in session. If your District has mandated no field trips through the end of the school year, please choose a different option.

Click here to keep your currently scheduled program

Option 2: Postpone
If your program is scheduled during school closures, you can reschedule for the months of May & June. If your District has mandated no field trips through the end of the school year, please choose a different option.

Click here to reschedule your program for a later date

Option 3: Change
If your District has mandated no field trips through the end of the school year, we can convert your field trip into an outreach. One of our educators will bring a one-hour program to your site for each of your scheduled classes. If possible, keeping the original field trip date ensures we have staff and resources already available.

Click here to convert your field trip to an outreach

  • Details about our outreach programs found here: https://www.thelivingcoast.org/schools-teachers/schooloutreach/
  • Note: if you were awarded a sponsorship, the outreach will still be free under the sponsorship and the requirements will be waived.
    • If you were not awarded a sponsorship, outreaches do have associated fees that you will be liable for in lieu of field trip fees

Option 4: Cancel
If none of these options or dates work for you, we are happy to cancel your program at no charge. Please help our staff, by filling out this link and a confirmation email will be sent as soon as we process your cancellation.

At this time, we are not scheduling any new reservations.
