Internships
The Living Coast Discovery Center internship program provides engaging, hands-on experiences designed to inspire and increase the diversity of professionals working in the field. During the 12-week program, participants will gain valuable skills and knowledge in their chosen area of unpaid internship that can be applied to their future careers. Check out the descriptions below to find the right internship for you!

Are you pursuing a zoology, marine biology, or animal care career? Join our Animal Care team and gain hands-on experience in our avian or aquarium department, learning about the essential roles our team plays in keeping our animals safe, healthy, and enriched.
Ages 16+
Are you pursuing a career in environmental or science education? Then join our Education department and learn how to engage K-12 students and the general public on the importance of native species and the conservation of San Diego salt marsh habitats.
Ages 18+
Are you passionate about sustainability? The Living Coast works with the City of Chula Vista to educate the public and schools about food waste diversion through backyard composting workshops, Master Composter courses, and zero-waste initiatives. Our sustainability interns will get hands-on experience with zero waste and composting!
Ages 16+
Are you pursuing a career in botany, plant biology, or horticultural science? Work with our fantastic horticulturist to learn about the techniques required to create and maintain a native plant garden.
Ages 16+
Marketing
Are you pursuing a career in marketing, digital media, or communications? Join the Marketing team to gain a deeper understanding of what happens behind the scenes at a nonprofit zoo & aquarium, and learn how to promote the mission effectively!
Ages 18+
