March 22 – August 31
From the desert to the sea, San Diego is home to an extensive range of species, making it the most biodiverse county in the continental United States. So, this summer, come out and Meet the Locals that inhabit this vast landscape.
Meet the Locals is a special seasonal celebration at the Living Coast featuring Animal Hangouts, Species Spotlights, educational programming, partner organizations, and more! Every weekend, you’ll have a chance to engage with local species and organizations working to keep San Diego’s biodiversity, well, biodiverse!

Animal Hangouts
Have you ever wanted to hang out with the animal ambassadors of the Living Coast? Now you can!
You can attend one of our Animal Hangouts during Meet the Locals between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. These hangouts will allow you to learn about San Diego’s native wildlife in a casual and fun setting. We will have a variety of animal ambassadors attending, including owls, snakes, lizards, hawks, aquatic species, and more!
Don’t miss out on an Animal Hangout!
Species Spotlights
Have you ever wondered how a bird’s wings contribute to their flight pattern? Do you know what a shark’s jaw looks like up close? Can you identify different types of pollinators?
Our Species Spotlights will help you understand different native species through fun activities, educational biofacts, and a Living Coast educator who will answer any and all your questions!
Every weekend, we feature a different species!
