DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 13 & 14 to celebrate International Bat Appreciation Day with educational Discovery Tables\, arts & crafts\, and animal encounters! \nInternational Bat Appreciation Day is April 17. This holiday reminds us of the vital role that bats play in our daily lives. Did you know that plants such as bananas\, mangoes\, cashews\, dates\, avocadoes\, peaches\, cloves\, and figs (to name a few) rely on bats for pollination? Bats also help distribute the seeds of these plants\, so they can reproduce and create more fruit for us humans to eat and enjoy. Bats are also a natural form of insect control\, most bats living in the U.S. and Canada eat insects such as mosquitoes. For instance\, one little brown bat can catch 600 mosquitoes or more an hour! If bats disappear\, the insect population will boom\, causing crop failure\, economic damage\, and human illness.

DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Team Up to Clean Up event at Pepper Park and help us protect and care for our coastal environment! Participants will pick up trash throughout the park and around the National City Boat Launch\, try to spot wildlife near the Sweetwater Channel\, and learn how we can all make a difference by keeping our parks and waterways clean! \nDate: Saturday\, April 20\nCheck-in time: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: Pepper Park is located at 3299 Tidelands Ave.\, National City\, CA 91950. We will meet next to the Pepper Park parking lot on the grassy area next to the restrooms and boat launching ramp. Look for the Living Coast Canopy! \nDriving directions: Take the Bay Marina Dr. (Mile of Cars Way) exit in National City and head west. At the stoplight\, turn left onto Marina Way. Follow Marina Way until it turns into W 32 St. then turn left onto Tidelands Ave. Parking is available in the parking lot next to Pepper Park. \nSuggested parking: Parking is available at the Pepper Park Parking Lot. \nRestrooms and Water: There are park restrooms available at this location. \nProgram Supplies: Buckets\, trash bags\, gloves\, safety vests\, and grabbers will be provided. Please make sure to bring water and wear comfortable clothes\, closed-toed shoes\, and sun/bug protection!

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Safari Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.
