DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP \nThanks for your interest in joining us for our Trail to Bay Challenge hike at Border Field State Park. Located along the International Border (thus the park’s namesake)\, this state park is home to the least terns\, rails\, and a wide array of butterfly species. If you’ve ever wondered what the landscape looks like for habitats at sea level that are often under the water during high tides\, this is a great opportunity to find out. You’ll also have the chance to see unique caster bean plants and other surprising wildlife. \nDate: July 16\, 2022\nCheck-in time: 9:30 am\nHike start: 10:00 am\nDuration: 1.5 – 2 hours \nPlease see below for information on the site location and details. \nMeeting Location: State Park sign at the entrance to the trail \nParking lot address: Paid parking ($7) is available on select days. Free parking is located directly at the entrance to the state park in a dirt lot on the left past Saturn Blvd. \nDriving Directions: From I-5 S\, exit Dairy Mart Rd on right. Continue down Dairy Mart Rd for 1.2 miles (drive cautiously- this road has horse traffic and they do spook. Be cautious of horses and riders). Turn right onto Monument Rd for 2.2 miles. The dirt parking lot will be on your left. \nTrailhead Location: The trail program will start at Border Field State Park sign. \nRestrooms and Water: Portable restrooms available. No water stations\, please plan accordingly. \nHike Length: 2.5 miles (loop) at sea level. The hike goes through sandy and sometimes muddy terrain\, please wear appropriate footwear. \nRecommended Gear: Water pack / bottle\, hiking poles (if desired)\, hiking shoes with proper grip \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

This hike will take place along a gravel trail with no real inclines. We will focus on looking at native species including cactus and other plants as well as take any opportunity for animals we see along the trail. \nDate: August 14\, 2022\nCheck in time: 8:00 am\nHike start: 8:30 am\nDuration: 1-2 hours\nHiking level: EASY \nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. See attached map! Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately this location does not offer restrooms so guests should plan accordingly. There is a green space park nearby that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail so we will make a half mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length. \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.
