This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. Continue into the parking lot next to the Rohr Dog Park. \nSuggested Parking: Parking is available in the parking lot next to the Rohr Dog Park at 3605 Bonita Verde Dr\, Bonita\, CA 91902. \nRestrooms: Park restrooms are available at this location. \nProgram Supplies: Buckets\, trash bags\, gloves\, safety vests\, and grabbers will be provided. SUMMARY:Plant Hike at Otay Lakes County Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the Otay Lakes County Park hiking trail! We will see the Otay Lakes Reservoir from various viewpoints and discuss the vital role of native plants. We’ll learn about plant adaptations and how they support wildlife. In addition to the trail views\, we will explore the park’s native plant garden! \nDate: Sunday\, June 1\nCheck-in time: 10:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park. \nSuggested parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a parking permit for $3 at the machine as you enter and park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost and at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock\, you must walk the rest of the way to join the group. \nRestrooms and Water: Restrooms are near the Ranger Station in the park’s center. The trailhead is straight ahead from the restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has about a 2-mile hike. \nProgram Supplies: Water\, sunscreen/hat\, bug repellent\, and walking shoes with proper support. \nHiking level: Moderate \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

During this bilingual hike\, we will learn about the native wildlife\, including cacti and other plants\, and take every opportunity to observe the animals we see along the trail. \nWe will be joined by Bichologo/Bugologist and the Chula Vista City Park Rangers on this hike! \nDate: Sunday\, October 12\nTime: 6:00 PM\nLocation: Rice Canyon \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA\n91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.

DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT! \nJoin us as we discover the bat population of Chula Vista! During this bilingual hike\, we will learn about the native wildlife\, including cacti and other plants\, and take every opportunity to observe the animals we see along the trail. \nWe will be joined by Bichologo/Bugologist on this hike! \nDate: October 25\, 2025\nTime: 5:30- 6:30 PM\nLocation: Rice Canyon Demonstration Garden \n \n\n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA\n91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.
