Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. Take exit 7C onto E St.\, continuing to Bonita Rd. E. Make a U-turn onto Bonita Rd. W to turn into the parking lot \nSuggested Parking: There is a parking lot attached to the trailhead near the corner of Bonita Rd. and Plaza Bonita Rd.\, which is only accessible from the westbound side of Bonita Rd. \nRestrooms and Water: There are no restrooms or water stations at this location. Please plan accordingly! The closest restroom is in the small shopping center across the street from the trailhead parking lot at 3041-47 Bonita Rd\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nHike Length: About 2 miles of out-and-back trail \nTrail Difficulty Level: This trail is listed as an easy hike. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Trail to Bay Hike on the Tijuana Estuary as a part of Latino Conservation Week and Tijuana River Action Month! \nThe Tijuana Estuary is a marshland located in the most southwestern part of the United States. This flat trail takes you through the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve\, along the Imperial Beach coastline with the Mexican border in the background. Encounter native wildlife and plants in this unique and endangered ecosystem. \nDuring Latino Conservation Week\, September 13 to 21\, adults and youth will have the opportunity to experience the outdoors in new ways and learn how they can help protect our land\, water\, and air. Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation. \nTijuana River Action Month is a series of education and stewardship events held during September and October to benefit the Tijuana River Watershed. The goals of TRAM are to mobilize a record number of community volunteers and groups to become stewards of the Tijuana River Watershed\, and to recognize key efforts and investments by public and private agencies\, businesses\, non-profits\, and community groups to protect and restore the Tijuana River. \n \n  \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center\, located at 301 Caspian Way\, Imperial Beach\, CA 91932. Driving Directions: Follow I-5 S to Coronado Ave in San Diego. Turn right onto Coronado Ave. Continue onto Imperial Beach Blvd. Turn left onto 3rd St. 3rd St turns left and becomes Caspian Way. During this bilingual hike\, we will learn about the native wildlife\, including cacti and other plants\, and take every opportunity to observe the animals we see along the trail. \nWe will be joined by Bichologo/Bugologist and the Chula Vista City Park Rangers on this hike! \nDate: Sunday\, October 12\nTime: 6:00 PM\nLocation: Rice Canyon \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA\n91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.

Lower your carbon footprint\, divert waste\, and enhance your garden all with one solution. Join us for a one-hour workshop to get you started and answer questions. (Included with cost of admission) \nOn the first Sunday of the month\, the compost workshop will be offered in English and Spanish. On the last Sunday of the month\, the workshop will cover Vermicomposting! \nCompost bins are available for $35 to Chula Vista residents who have attended one of the City’s composting workshops or the Master Composter Course. \nChula Vista residents can receive free admission to the Living Coast on select Sundays! Click here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Safari Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT! \nJoin us as we discover the bat population of Chula Vista! During this bilingual hike\, we will learn about the native wildlife\, including cacti and other plants\, and take every opportunity to observe the animals we see along the trail. \nWe will be joined by Bichologo/Bugologist on this hike! \nDate: October 25\, 2025\nTime: 5:30- 6:30 PM\nLocation: Rice Canyon Demonstration Garden \n \n\n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA\n91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.
