SUMMARY:Bilingual Hike at Mother Miguel Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the Mother Miguel Mountain Trail! We will look for signs of wildlife and plants while discussing the Sweetwater Watershed and the importance of keeping our local areas clean. The hike will be conducted in both English and Spanish. \nDate: Saturday\, March 22nd\nCheck-in time: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet just north of the Mt San Miguel Park parking lot\, located at 2335 Paseo Veracruz\, Chula Vista\, CA 91914. We will meet at the far end of the parking lot next to the dog park. \nDriving directions: Take 125 south to the Paradise Valley Road exit. Turn right onto Elkelton Place\, then right onto Paradise Valley Road. After approximately .5 mile\, turn left onto S Worthington Street. Continue as S Worthington Street turns into Sweetwater Road. Turn left onto Bonita Road\, then take the next left onto San Miguel Road. Follow San Miguel Road for approximately .9 miles\, and then turn right onto Proctor Valley Road. Follow Proctor Valley Road for approximately .5 miles\, then turn left onto San Miguel Ranch Road. Continue as San Miguel Ranch Road turns into Mt Miguel Road\, then turn left onto Paseo Veracruz. Enter the parking lot for Mt San Miguel Park and make the first right. \nSuggested parking: The far end of the parking lot is located at 2335 Paseo Veracruz\, Chula Vista\, CA 91914\, near the dog park. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms and water fountains are located at Mt San Miguel Park center of the baseball fields. \nHike lengths: This hike will lead up and around the mountain\, offering spectacular views of the surrounding city and the Sweetwater Reservoir. We estimate the hike to be 4 to 5 miles in length round trip. \nProgram Supplies: Water pack/bottle\, hiking poles (if desired)\, and hiking shoes with proper support. \nHiking level: Difficult \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. SUMMARY:Bat Hike at Sweetwater River Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful sunset hike\, during which we will discover the different species of bats that call the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge home! We will also see the distinctive view of San Miguel Mountain and learn about the native plants and animals thriving in this protected space. The hike begins at the Sweetwater River Bridge and continues on to a looped trail. \nDate: Sunday\, April 6\nCheck-in time: 6:00 PM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \n\nMeeting Location: We will meet at Millar Ranch Rd\, Spring Valley\, CA 92019 at the new trail parking lot. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take 94 East until it turns into Campo Road. Turn right onto CA-94 E/Campo Road. Turn right onto Millar Ranch Rd. The parking area will be on your right. \nSuggested parking: Parking is available at the new trail parking lot\, and additional parking is available on the street at no cost. If you park on the street\, you will need to walk a short distance to join the group. \nRestrooms and Water: No restrooms or water stations are available on the trail. The nearest restrooms are in the strip mall down the street. Please plan accordingly. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 2 miles in length. \nProgram Supplies: Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Living Coast staff will be wearing headlamps\, but bringing a flashlight is highly recommended. DESCRIPTION:Border BioBlitz 2025 \nJoin us at the Tijuana Estuary in the most southwestern part of the United States for a bilingual (English/Spanish) birding hike! This flat trail takes you through the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve\, along the Imperial Beach coastline with the Mexican border in the background. Encounter native wildlife and plants in this unique and endangered ecosystem. \nDuring this event\, we will be supporting the Border BioBlitz 2025! The Border BioBlitz is a community science effort to record as many species as possible along the U.S.-Mexico border. Living Coast staff will use the iNaturalist app to contribute to the project. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the Otay Lakes County Park hiking trail! We will see the Otay Lakes Reservoir from various viewpoints and discuss the vital role of native plants. We’ll learn about plant adaptations and how they support wildlife. In addition to the trail views\, we will explore the park’s native plant garden! \nDate: Sunday\, June 1\nCheck-in time: 10:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park. \nSuggested parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a parking permit for $3 at the machine as you enter and park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost and at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock\, you must walk the rest of the way to join the group. \nRestrooms and Water: Restrooms are near the Ranger Station in the park’s center.
