Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. DESCRIPTION:Join us from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Tijuana Estuary for our next birding hike! \nDuring this hike\, we will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by using binoculars to search for native bird species. This event will also support the 2026 Border BioBlitz\, a community science effort to record as many species as possible along the U.S.-Mexico border. Learn more about the BioBlitz here: Border BioBlitz 2026 \n \nMeeting Location: We will be meeting outside of the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center at 301 Caspian Wy\, Imperial Beach\, CA 91932 \nDriving Directions: Follow I-5 S to Coronado Ave in San Diego. Turn right onto Coronado Ave. Continue onto Imperial Beach Blvd. Turn left onto 3rd St. 3rd St turns left and becomes Caspian Way. Once you park your vehicle\, look for the Living Coast canopy for check-in!  \n\n\nDriving Directions: From the I-5 freeway\, take exit 8B onto E St. Head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot.   \n\n\nSuggested Parking: Parking is available at the Living Coast Discovery Center Parking Lot.   \n\n\nRestrooms: The nearest restrooms are inside the Living Coast Discovery Center\, near the front doors. SUMMARY:Bat Hike at Sweetwater River Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful sunset hike to discover the different bat species that call the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge home! We will see the distinctive view of San Miguel Mountain and learn about the native plants and animals thriving in this protected space.  \n \n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet at the Trailhead Parking Lot at Millar Ranch Rd\, Spring Valley\, CA 92019. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo!  \n\n\nDriving directions: Take 94 East until it turns into Campo Road. Turn right onto CA-94 E/Campo Road. Turn right onto Millar Ranch Rd. The parking area will be on your right.  \n\n\nSuggested parking: Parking is available at the “Trailhead Parking Lot” (link). Additional parking is available on the street at no cost. If you park on the street\, you will need to walk a short distance to join the group. \n\nRestrooms and Water: No restrooms or water stations are available on the trail. The nearest restrooms will be in the strip mall down the street. Please plan accordingly.  \n\n\nProgram Time: 6:30-8:00 pm \n\n\nHike lengths: This hike is about 2 miles and moderate in difficulty. The trail is mostly flat but does include some rocky terrain/erosion\, some uphill portions\, and a small wooden bridge that we will cross.  \n\n\nProgram Supplies: Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Living Coast staff will be wearing head lamps\, but bringing a flashlight is highly recommended. Please bring water and bug protection!

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Safari Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.
