Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.

Otay Lakes County Park is a small park on the southern shore of Lower Otay Lake in Chula Vista. \nDate: Sunday\, November 9\nCheck in: 10:00 AM\nLocation: Otay Lakes County Park \n \nMeeting Location: Meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, located at 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park. \nSuggested Parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a $3 parking permit at the machine as you enter\, and park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost\, as well as at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock\, you will need to walk the rest of the way to join the group. \nNearest Trail Head and Restrooms: Restrooms are located near the Ranger Station in the center of the park. The trailhead is straight ahead from the restrooms. \nProgram Time: Due to the park opening at 9:30\, check-in will be at 10\, and our hikes will begin at 10:30 am and last until approximately 12:00 pm.

We will have the opportunity to learn about the fantastic local wildlife around the San Dieguito Lagoon and River Valley in English and Spanish. The hike will begin at the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary and continue on the Coast to Crest Trail.         \n\n\nDate: January 10\, 2026\nCheck-in: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours  \n \n\n\nMeeting Location: Free Flight Bird Sanctuary at 2132 Jimmy Durante Blvd\, Del Mar. \nDriving directions: Follow I-5 N and take Exit 36 onto Via De La Valle in San Diego. SUMMARY:Bug Hike at Otay Lakes County Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the Otay Lakes County Park hiking trail! We will view the Otay Lakes Reservoir from multiple viewpoints and learn about the native plants and animals thriving in this protected area. In addition to the trail’s views\, we will also have the opportunity to explore the park’s native plant garden!  \nDate: Saturday\, February 28\nTime: 10:00 – 12:00 AM\nLocation: Otay Lakes County Park \n \n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, located at 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. See attached map! Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo!  \n\n\nDriving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park.  \n\n\nSuggested parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a $3 parking permit at the machine upon entry\, then park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost\, as well as at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock\, you will need to walk the rest of the way to join the group.   \n\n\nRestrooms and Water: Restrooms are located near the Ranger Station in the center of the park. The trailhead is straight ahead from the restrooms.   \n\n\nHike length: This location offers a 2-mile hike.   \n\n\nTrail Difficulty Level: This hike is moderate due to rocky terrain and a 320-foot incline.  \n\n\nRecommended Gear: Water\, sunscreen/hat\, bug repellent\, and walking shoes with proper support.

We will look at native plant adaptations\, animal tracks\, and the trailhead succulent garden! \nDate: Saturday\, March 21\nTime: 9:00 – 11:00 AM\nLocation: Rice Canyon \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. See attached map! Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right.  Suggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nRestrooms and Water: This location does not offer restrooms or water\, so please plan accordingly. The closest restrooms would be in the park across the street. \nHike length: 1 mile out and back along a straight trail \nTrail Difficulty Level: Easy – The trail consists of a wide\, flat dirt path accessible to strollers and guests of all ages.
