We will look at native plant adaptations\, traces of animals\, and the trailhead succulent garden. We will also be joined by Park Rangers\, who will help us learn how to stretch for a hike! \nDate: Saturday\, February 22\nCheck-in time: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 miles\, the Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve entrance will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nRestrooms and Water: This location does not offer restrooms or water\, so please plan accordingly. During this hike\, we will learn about the importance of native insects and use tools like magnifying glasses and bug boxes to look for signs of wildlife around Fenton Pond. \nDate: Sunday\, February 9\nCheck-in time: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet just north of the parking lot at the ranger station at 2155 Beyer Blvd\, San Diego\, CA 92154. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From I-805: Take I-805 south to the Main Street exit. Turn right onto Main St and continue for approximately 2.2 miles. Turn left onto Broadway and continue as it turns into Beyer Blvd. The entrance to the parking lot will be on your right\, roughly .5 miles from Main Street. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is at 2155 Beyer Blvd\, San Diego\, CA 92154. ** Please note that this lot does not open if there is rain. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are near the ranger station off Beyer Blvd. \nHike lengths: This location can provide two hike options. The first option is a shorter hike\, approximately ¾ of a mile. The second option is a longer hike that is approximately 1 ½ miles. This location is flat with small gravel and sand\, suitable for most wheelchairs and strollers. \nProgram Supplies: Water\, sunscreen/hat\, and walking shoes with proper support. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.

We will use binoculars to search for some of Chula Vista’s year-round and migratory bird species and enjoy scenic views of the Sweetwater Reservoir and South Bay San Diego. \nDate: Saturday\, December 21st\nCheck-in time: 9:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet just north of the Mt San Miguel Park parking lot at 2335 Paseo Veracruz\, Chula Vista\, CA 91914. We will meet at the far end of the parking lot next to the dog park. \nDriving directions: Take 125 south to the Paradise Valley Road exit. Turn right onto Elkelton Place\, then right onto Paradise Valley Road. After approximately .5 miles\, turn left onto S Worthington Street. Continue as S Worthington Street turns into Sweetwater Road. Turn left onto Bonita Road\, then take the next left onto San Miguel Road. Follow San Miguel Road for approximately .9 miles\, and then turn right onto Proctor Valley Road. Follow Proctor Valley Road for approximately .5 miles\, then turn left onto San Miguel Ranch Road. Continue as San Miguel Ranch Road turns into Mt Miguel Road\, then turn left onto Paseo Veracruz. Enter the parking lot for Mt San Miguel Park and make the first right. \nSuggested parking: The far end of the parking lot is located at 2335 Paseo Veracruz\, Chula Vista\, CA 91914\, near the dog park. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms and water fountains are at Mt San Miguel Park\, which is the center of the baseball fields. \nHike lengths: This hike will lead up and around the mountain\, offering spectacular views of the surrounding city and the Sweetwater Reservoir. Become an entomologist and use tools like magnifying glasses and bug boxes to look closer into the incredible world of butterflies\, beetles\, and more! During our hike\, we will learn about the importance of native insects\, see the Otay Lakes Reservoir from various viewpoints\, and explore the park’s native plant garden. \nDate: Saturday\, November 23\nCheck-in: 10:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving Directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park. \nSuggested Parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a parking permit for $3 at the machine as you enter and park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost\, as well as at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take I-15 N. Take exit 26 and turn left toward W Bernardo Dr in San Diego. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. SUMMARY:Trail to Bay Hike at Free Flight Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partner with the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary and Palomar College for a trilingual hike in Del Mar! We will have the opportunity to learn about the amazing local wildlife around the San Dieguito Lagoon and River Valley in English\, Spanish\, and American Sign Language. The hike will begin at the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary and continue on the Coast to Crest Trail. \nDate: Friday\, September 27\nCheck-in time: 11:00 AM\nDuration: 2 hours \n \nMeeting Location: We will be meeting outside of the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary at 2132 Jimmy Durante Blvd\, Del Mar. \nDriving directions: Follow I-5 N and take Exit 36 onto Via De La Valle in San Diego. Make a left onto Via De La Valle and then turn left onto Jimmy Durante Blvd. Continue on Jimmy Durante Blvd. until you reach the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary on the right. \nSuggested parking: Parking is available at the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary or across the street in the paid parking lot \nRestrooms and Water: Bathrooms and water station are available at the Free Flight Bird sanctuary. \nHike length: Approximately 2 miles \nProgram Supplies: Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking.
