SUMMARY:Bilingual Plant Hike: Otay Lakes County Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we discover the gorgeous views of the Otay River Valley\, Otay River Gorge\, and San Ysidro Mountains. We will view the Otay Lakes Reservoir from various viewpoints and learn about the native plants and animals that thrive in this protected space. This location has a slight incline with rocky terrain. Otay Lakes County Park is a small park on the southern shore of Lower Otay Lake in Chula Vista. \nDate: Sunday\, November 9\nCheck in: 10:00 AM\nLocation: Otay Lakes County Park \n \nMeeting Location: Meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park\, located at 2270 Wueste Road\, Chula Vista\, CA 91915. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park. \nSuggested Parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a $3 parking permit at the machine as you enter\, and park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost\, as well as at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock\, you will need to walk the rest of the way to join the group. \nNearest Trail Head and Restrooms: Restrooms are located near the Ranger Station in the center of the park. The trailhead is straight ahead from the restrooms. \nProgram Time: Due to the park opening at 9:30\, check-in will be at 10\, and our hikes will begin at 10:30 am and last until approximately 12:00 pm.

Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.

Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.

This flat trail takes you through the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve\, along the Imperial Beach coastline with the Mexican border in the background. Encounter native wildlife and plants in this unique and endangered ecosystem. \nDuring Latino Conservation Week\, September 13 to 21\, adults and youth will have the opportunity to experience the outdoors in new ways and learn how they can help protect our land\, water\, and air. Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation. \nTijuana River Action Month is a series of education and stewardship events held during September and October to benefit the Tijuana River Watershed. The goals of TRAM are to mobilize a record number of community volunteers and groups to become stewards of the Tijuana River Watershed\, and to recognize key efforts and investments by public and private agencies\, businesses\, non-profits\, and community groups to protect and restore the Tijuana River. \n \n  \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center\, located at 301 Caspian Way\, Imperial Beach\, CA 91932. W to turn into the parking lot \nSuggested Parking: There is a parking lot attached to the trailhead near the corner of Bonita Rd. and Plaza Bonita Rd.\, which is only accessible from the westbound side of Bonita Rd. \nRestrooms and Water: There are no restrooms or water stations at this location. Please plan accordingly! DESCRIPTION:Join us every Saturday as we explore the Sweetwater Marsh Trail on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge! We will learn about the history of the Sweetwater Marsh\, the salt marsh ecosystem\, and the plants and wildlife thriving in this protected space. Backpacks with fun activities\, including magnifying glasses and binoculars\, will be available for families to use while on the hike. \n \nCheck-in time: 11:30 am\nDuration: 30-45 Minutes \nMeeting Location: We will meet outside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910. \nDriving directions: From the I5 freeway\, exit at E street and head west to the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot. This hike location is located on a wildlife refuge\, and all visitors must park in the outer lot and take the free Living Coast Discovery Center shuttle. \nSuggested parking: This locations parking lot is located outside of a wildlife refuge. All visitors must take the free shuttle from the parking lot located on Gunpowder Point Drive. This lot is located at Gunpowder Point Drive\, Chula Vista CA 91910. \nRestrooms and Water: The nearest restrooms are located inside the front doors of the Living Coast Discovery Center. You do not have to pay to use the restrooms\, but if visitors choose to enter the facility to visit exhibits they must pay the admission fees. \nHike lengths: This trail is approximately 1 mile in length. \nProgram Supplies:  Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle\, bug protection\, and sun protection are highly recommended. \nHiking level: Easy \nNo pets will be allowed on the hike.
