SUMMARY:Bat Hike at Sweetwater River Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful sunset hike to discover the different bat species that call the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge home! We will see the distinctive view of San Miguel Mountain and learn about the native plants and animals thriving in this protected space.  \n \n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet at the Trailhead Parking Lot at Millar Ranch Rd\, Spring Valley\, CA 92019. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo!  \n\n\nDriving directions: Take 94 East until it turns into Campo Road. Turn right onto CA-94 E/Campo Road. Turn right onto Millar Ranch Rd. The parking area will be on your right.  \n\n\nSuggested parking: Parking is available at the “Trailhead Parking Lot” (link). Additional parking is available on the street at no cost. If you park on the street\, you will need to walk a short distance to join the group. \n\nRestrooms and Water: No restrooms or water stations are available on the trail. The nearest restrooms will be in the strip mall down the street. Please plan accordingly.  \n\n\nProgram Time: 6:30-8:00 pm \n\n\nHike lengths: This hike is about 2 miles and moderate in difficulty. The trail is mostly flat but does include some rocky terrain/erosion\, some uphill portions\, and a small wooden bridge that we will cross.  \n\n\nProgram Supplies: Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Living Coast staff will be wearing head lamps\, but bringing a flashlight is highly recommended. Please bring water and bug protection!

During this bilingual hike\, we will learn about the native wildlife\, including cacti and other plants\, and take every opportunity to observe the animals we see along the trail. \nWe will be joined by Bichologo/Bugologist on this hike! \nDate: October 25\, 2025\nTime: 5:30- 6:30 PM\nLocation: Rice Canyon Demonstration Garden \n \n\n\n\nMeeting Location: We will meet on the west side of the parking lot at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA\n91910. Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo! \nDriving directions: From 805 South\, take the Bonita Road exit. Turn left onto Bonita Road and continue approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Otay Lakes Road and continue approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Avenida Del Rey\, then turn left onto N Rancho Del Rey Parkway. In approximately .4 mile\, the entrance to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve will be on the right. \nSuggested parking: This park offers a dirt/gravel lot with limited spaces. This lot is located at 1242 Cima Del Rey\, Chula Vista\, CA 91910 \nNearest Trailhead and Restrooms to meeting location: Unfortunately\, this location does not offer restrooms\, so guests should plan accordingly. There is a nearby green space park that may offer restrooms. \nHike lengths: This location has only one entrance into the trail\, so we will make a half-mile hike into the trail and then turn around\, totaling our hike 1 mile in length.
